Dubmire Primary School promotes respect of individual differences through the school’s values and in all areas of learning and interaction. Children are taught and learn to respect their rights and the rights of others. We have high expectations about pupil conduct and this is reflected in our Behaviour Policy and Single Equality Policy.
Mutual respect is also promoted through circle time, PSHE lessons and assemblies. Children are taught to respect each other, to be cooperative and collaborative, be supportive and to look for similarities while being understanding of differences.
Through discussion we encourage children to recognise and challenge prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour. We want our pupils to realise that similar situations and issues appear in schools around the world but that the local situation can dictate the outcome and that we need to respect the same and differing opinions to the same problem.
