Admissions
Introduction
Starting Dubmire is an exciting experience but it can also raise many questions. We hope the information in this section will give you and your child many events to look forward to, and will help answer any queries. Full curriculum documents and local education authority statements of curricular policy will be available at the school and a hard copy of the school or childcare prospectus can be obtained on request.
Finally, we would like to emphasise that if you do have any problems concerning your child, please do not hesitate to speak to either Mrs Hobbs the Head Teacher or Miss Jones the Childcare Manager who will be happy to discuss any issues or concerns you may have. With your help and cooperation we will do our best to make your child’s time with us happy and successful.
Admissions
Childcare admits children between the ages of 0-3yrs on a fee paying basis. The rooms are divided in to Baby Room 0-2yrs and the 2's and 3's. Each child once settled will be allocated a Key Worker. At the age of 3 all children are entitled to a free 15 hour place at school within the nursery unit or alternatively we can now offer a flexible place for your child within our childcare setting with the same standards of care and education as in school. In the main school site we admit children between the ages of three and eleven. We organise our classes by age. There are two classes for each age group, containing children from across the whole range of ability. No class will have more than thirty children in it. The children will spend most of their day with the same class teacher, which allows for good continuity. Thus, the individual class teacher is responsible for the day-to-day organisation of his/her class, general progress and pastoral care, acting as the main link with parents.
On occasions, lessons will be taken by other teachers in specialist curriculum areas. Some specialist teaching may take place on a withdrawal basis, for example, special needs, music, Religious Education, Modern Foreign Languages and P.E.
At the age of eleven most pupils transfer to Houghton Kepier School with which we are forging strong links.
There is an open invitation to parents and children who wish to look around school or the childcare setting prior to admission. Please contact the main office who will organise such a visit. If a place is available for your child the Head Teacher will make all the necessary arrangements to ensure that your child has a smooth introduction to Dubmire.
Children who are to be admitted to our school will have a number of visits organised. Parents will be informed well in advance of the proposed visits and will be given an opportunity themselves to visit the school where an introductory talk will be given by the Head Teacher and relevant members of staff. At this informal meeting there will be an opportunity to ask questions and you will be advised of how and where to purchase school uniform.
Admissions to the Nursery Class
Parents are asked to register their child at the school with the child's birth certificate. Names for the nursery class are accepted from the child's second birthday. The Local Authority organises the criteria for nursery admissions. The school, on this basis, offers a nursery place to parents four to five months before the child is due to start.
Admissions to the Reception Classes
Parents may register their child’s name for the school of their choice. Registrations are now organised centrally by the LA, but registration forms will be available through the school for parents with children in the nursery. Parents will be asked to state their preferences about a year before the child is due to start in reception.
Transfer to Key Stage 3 (Secondary School)
At the end of Key Stage 2 parents will be asked to register for transfer to Key Stage 3.
Registration forms will be sent out via the school and parents will be able to state their preferred Secondary School. The LA will then organise transfers and inform parents of places offered.
