Building Relationships
Building Relationships
It is paramount that all relationships are strong between all adults, parents/carers and children. Communication is vital. We have procedures in place to promote good relationships.
Settling in period
We appreciate that starting daycare is a huge step for children and their families and we hope to make the experience as smooth as possible. As all children are unique we do not have a set structure for our settling period and we review after every visit. We do recommend that a parent/carer stays with the child on the 1st session and has an informal chat with staff in the room about the child. In addition to this ‘All About Me’ forms are to be completed by the family. We welcome any comforters to assist the settling and would encourage parents to bring in family photos to share with the children whilst at daycare.
Key Person
Once your child has attended the setting on a few occasions we hope that the bond will be strong with all adults. At this point a Key Person for the child will be allocated. This person will complete your child’s learning journal, daily diary and be there for the whole family. Within the day staff have dedicated time to spend with their Key children and will be responsible for monitoring their development.
The Daycare Manager/ Deputy Manager will be available on a daily basis to discuss concerns/issues but we do hope that parents and staff build open relationships to communicate freely.
Parents/carers
The communication between parents and primary carers of the children and the daycare staff is paramount. We are aware that it can be a very busy, rushed time of the day when dropping your child off at the setting so we provide a daily diary in all rooms to share information. We also encourage parents to complete observations and details of what they have been doing with their child to share within the setting. Each child has a learning journal, of which we would appreciate the input of parents.
We offer an opening evening twice annually to invite parents/carers to attend and discuss their child’s development.
