Year 4 – Summer blog

The summer term topic in Year 4 has been based on habits around the world. It has provided the children with opportunities to develop skills in a range of subjects including: literacy, numeracy, science, geography and art.

At the beginning of the term, the children produced some excellent shoebox habits demonstrating their knowledge, initiative and creativity.

In literacy, the children have continued to develop their writing skills within a range of texts including reports, stories, instructions and explanations producing some excellent written work.

During the second half term, Year 4 enjoyed a trip to Rainton Meadows Nature Reserve.

The children were able to learn about the range of plants, mini beasts and other animals which live nearby whilst observing them in their local habitat. Using classification keys, the children were able to identify a range of weird and wonderful creatures. Some of the children also explored the school environment in order to find out which creatures make our school ground their home.

Finally, a massive well done to the children for the hard work they have put in throughout this school year! We hope they have a fantastic and well deserved summer holiday.

Good luck for Year 5 and the future. Keep up the hard work.

Year 4 Summer term project

Year 4 Summer term
Habitats project

As our topic for the summer term is all about habitats, we would like you to get creative and make a shoebox habitat (if you do not have a shoebox, a similar sized box is fine). You could choose any of the following habitats: woodland, rainforest, ocean, lake/pond, polar or desert.

You need to:
1. Decorate the inside of the shoebox to look like your habitat.
2. Include some animals and plants which live there.
3. On the back of the shoebox, attach a piece of paper with your name, the name of the habitat, where in the world you would find your habitat and what types of animals and plants you would find there.

Please return your shoebox habitat by Wednesday 3rd June 2015.

We look forward to seeing how creative you can be.

Good luck.

Tudor day – Year 4

Dear Parents/Carers,

On Thursday 21st May, Year 4 will be participating in a Tudor day. We will be taking part in a variety of craft, leisure and sporting activities from Tudor times. In addition, Mrs McCree will be cooking some Tudor treats.

We would be grateful if the children could dress up as someone from Tudor times.

Girls could wear:                                              Boys could wear:

dress or skirt                                                      trousers or shorts

blouse                                                                  long socks

tights                                                                     black shoes

school shoes                                                      jumper or blazer

cardigan or shawl                                             flat cap

As one of the activities planned for the day is archery, can children please ensure that they bring in a suitable pair of shoes to wear during this activity?
