Early Years Foundation Stage

‘The best start in life’s journey’

In Nursery and Reception, we strive to secure a solid foundation for all our children so that they make good progress throughout school and life.

To help us achieve this, we aim for each pupil to reach or exceed the Goals set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Profile by the end of Reception.

The EYFS Profile outlines 7 areas of learning and 3 characteristics of effective learning that practitioners are responsible for observing and assessing.

The Prime Areas of Learning

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language

The Specific Areas of Learning

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

The Characteristics of Effective Learning

  • Playing and exploring
  • Active learning
  • Creating and thinking critically

Planned activities are based around children’s interests and we aim to provide a rich range of experiences.
