Security and Safety
To ensure that all pupils, parents, staff and visitors are safe and secure on the premises we adhere strictly to the Health and Safety measures recommended by the City of Sunderland. All parents and others visiting during the school day must call first at the school office. We have also introduced a security system where all visitors to the school will sign in and wear an identification badge so that it is obvious that all persons on the premises have a genuine reason for being there. We also have CCTV cameras which help protect the site.
Safeguarding
Dubmire Daycare, Primary and Children's Centre is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Parents/carers should be aware that everyone on site would take any reasonable action to ensure the safety of all our children.
To do this we make sure that:
- All staff are recruited and trained to keep children safe in accordance with safeguarding regulations set out by Sunderland Safeguarding Children Board.
-
All services are provided in a safe environment.
- Talking to the child's parents/carers
- Discussing concerns with a senior member of staff and the designated person for safeguarding.
- Following the Sunderland Safeguarding Children Board procedures and informing Children's Services Social Care of their concerns
Parental Responsibility
- What is Parental Responsibility?
- Parental Responsibility is defined in Section 3 (1) Children Act 1989 as “all the duties, powers, responsibilities and authority which by law a parent of a child has in relation to the child and his/her property”.
- What does it mean to have Parental Responsibility?
- When a decision has to be taken about a child, all those who have parental responsibility are allowed to have a say in that decision.
When do parents have Parental Responsibility?
- A mother automatically has parental responsibility for her child from birth.
- In England and Wales, if the parents of a child are married to each other at the time of the birth, or if they have jointly adopted a child, then they both have parental responsibility. Parents do not lose parental responsibility if they divorce.
When do parents have Parental Responsibility?
- A father, however, has this responsibility only if he is married to the mother when the child is born or has acquired legal responsibility for his child though one of these three routes:
- (from 1 December 2003) by jointly registering the birth of the child with the mother.
- By a parental responsibility agreement with the mother.
- By a parental responsibility order, made by a court.
- Living with the mother, even for a long time, does not give a father parental responsibility and if the parents are not married, parental responsibility does not always pass to the natural father if the mother dies.
- All parents (including adoptive parents) have a legal duty to financially support their child, whether they have parental responsibility or not.
