The total teaching day is 4 hours and 30 mins for Key Stage 1 and 4 hours and 42 mins for Key Stage 2. All teaching staff are entitled to 10% non contact time for planning and preparation (PPA). The school year in 2011-12 is 189 days for pupils and 194 days for staff. Parents will receive notification of in-service training days and any unforeseen changes to the school day via the new web site calender.
Bringing and Collecting Children from School
Parents are responsible for ensuring that their children arrive at school punctually each day. Please ensure that a responsible person collects your child at the correct time. In the interests of safety all children are told that they must only leave the premises with the person you have nominated, and that person must be over the age of 16 years.
Lunchtime Arrangements
Pupils may either stay on the premises for lunch or go home. Those who stay at school may either bring packed lunches or pay for school meals, with the exception of Reception children who must stay for school dinner in the first term. Dinner money is collected every Monday morning or parents/carers can pay termly in advance by credit/debit card. Meals are served on plates and separate bowls for dessert not flight trays and the school is working hard to create a warm and inviting atmosphere for your chidren to enjoy their meal. We have worked very closely this year with the school meals team and have adapted the menu to suit the schools needs and desires of our children. A copy of the menu can be viewed using the following link:
The supervision and clearing arrangements are especially important for those children on packed lunches. Lunches must be provided in a lunch box or bag, clearly labelled with the childs name and class. When your child has finished their lunch, they will bring their rubbish back home with them, this is to ensure parents can monitor what their child is actually eating.
It is recommended that your child is provided with a balanced meal, which should not include fizzy drinks, sweets or chocolate. Guidance on what could be included is available via the following link:
Some families may be eligible to receive free school meals. Application forms are available from the school office or by calling the Civic Centre on 0191 553 1417
