Physical Education
Subject Leader - Mr Ross
At Dubmire, we want all of our children to develop and enrich their agility, balance and coordination across a range of sports (Dance, Gymnastics, Athletics, Striking and Fielding Games and Invasion Games) to prepare them for later life in school and beyond.
In EYFS, the children begin their journey by following the Development Matters, Physical Development Early Learning Goals. Children will revise and refine the Fundamental Movement Skills that they have already acquired (For example rolling, crawling, walking, jumping, running, skipping and hopping). The children will begin to develop their overall body strength, balance, coordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully in Physical Education sessions as they move through the school.
The children will continue to develop their Fundamental Movement Skills as they progress through KS1 and KS2. KS1 will have a clear focus of developing Fundamental Movement Skills through a variety of skill application activities. This will allow the children to begin to access specific sports based lessons as they complete KS1 and move into KS2. KS2 will have a focus on incorporating skills into specific sports where the Physical Education lesson teach the children how to play specific sports using specific Fundamental Movement Skills. The children will also be taught rules and tactics of specific sports. Throughout KS1 and KS2, children are provided with enhancing and enriching activities which include Sports Week, Intra and Inter School Competitions, After School Clubs and Lunchtime Clubs.
